Building in the open
What's done, what's in progress, and what shipped when. No marketing gloss — this page is how we hold ourselves accountable to our Early Birds.
What Drive does today, in detail
Upload and files
LiveDrag-and-drop upload of several files at once, with per-file progress. A sortable list by name, size, owner and date. Image preview in the browser; every file downloadable. Duplicate content is recognised via its content fingerprint and stored only once — network-wide.
Versions
LiveUpload a file under an existing name and a new version is created automatically; the old one stays. Versions carry optional change notes and can be downloaded or deleted individually. Identical content never creates a duplicate version.
Sharing
LivePublic download links with optional expiry, revocable at any time. Personal shares by username or one-time invite link, as viewer or editor, with an attached message. Both sides see every invite's state: open, accepted, declined, revoked, expired. No automatic emails yet — you pass links on through a channel you trust.
Account, storage settings and API
LiveChange username, email and password. Choose 0–3 replicas per account. Create named API keys with optional expiry — shown exactly once, revocable; everything Drive does is available through the API. Company workspaces with invited members and pooled storage.
In progress right now
BuildingFolders, search and filters, a wastebasket with restore, and bulk actions — the "everyday basics" milestone on the roadmap. Encryption by default is in active development in parallel.
Release notes
Short and honest — every entry is a version that reached the live product, dated the day it did.
Version 0.9.0
- The "Upload files" panel now shows a progress bar while your files are being uploaded, and tells you when they are being saved to your drive.
- Early Bird members can now choose to join the voluntary Early Bird research programme and share how they use the app. You decide in a card on your drive or in your settings, and you can leave at any time. The privacy policy has a new section about it.
- The expiry date of an API key can be picked again.
Version 0.8.14
- In the settings, the avatar menu no longer looks like underlined links.
- The Early Bird storage offer is now inside the app: an "Add storage" link in the sidebar, a storage bar that turns amber and then red as your space fills up, and a short "Back the build" note with a "See storage tiers" button in the welcome window after sign-up.
- If an upload is too large for your storage, the message now points you straight to Plan & storage.
- The FAQ answers the questions about adding storage and the Early Bird discount.
- The FAQ no longer talks about a free trial while early access is running.
- If an e-mail cannot be delivered right away, we keep trying for several hours.
Version 0.8.10
- Confirming your e-mail address now takes effect immediately.
- The Terms now explain what happens after you report illegal content: you get a receipt, we tell you our decision, and we may disable public links or restrict the account involved.
- The start page and Company page now say that the ID of Life team works across Europe and is headquartered in Finland.
Version 0.8.7
- Forgot your password? You can now request a link by e-mail and choose a new one.
- ID of Life now asks you to confirm your e-mail address with a link. A banner reminds you until it is done.
- You can change your e-mail address in your settings and confirm the new one from its inbox.
- Invitations to your workspace can now be sent to people by e-mail.
- The privacy request form now also covers withdrawing consent and reporting illegal content, and you get a receipt by e-mail.
- Signing up no longer shows the same confirmation message twice.
Version 0.8.0
- The public pages — start page, Progress, Roadmap, FAQ, Terms, Privacy and Company — have a fresh look: a floating navigation bar at the top, soft animated backgrounds and gentle effects as you scroll. All texts stay the same.
- The footer now shows that ID of Life is based and developed in Europe.
Version 0.7.14
- The public pages have a tidier one-row header, with a menu button on phones and tablets.
- The new combined ID of Life Drive logo appears on the start page, the sign-in and sign-up pages, and in the menu beside your drive.
- The "Become an Early Bird — free" buttons now take you straight to the Early Bird section instead of leaving you to scroll.
- The Early Bird section is now one clear panel, without the storage price table.
Version 0.7.8
- A new privacy enquiries page lets you send us a data protection request, such as asking what we store about you, without having to write an email. You can reach it from the footer of every page; the send button turns active once the request type, your email address and the confirmation box are filled in.
Version 0.7.3
- Storage plans and your current plan now show their size as a plain amount, such as "110 GB", instead of with a leading plus sign.
Version 0.7.2
- Storage sizes in your settings and on the storage plans are now shown in GB, matching how the plans and prices are named.
Version 0.7.0
- A new start page presents ID of Life as an early-access product: the idea, what Drive does today, a roadmap, and how many free Early Bird seats are left.
- Two new public pages, Progress and Roadmap, show what has been built so far and what comes next.
- Early Bird storage is now one monthly subscription: pick a storage tier, switch tier later, and see every price per month. A bigger tier applies right away; a smaller one starts at the end of your paid period, and you can change your mind and keep your current tier.
- The storage tiers are explained before you buy, including how discounts add up and where they stop.
- Settings are now five clear pages: Account, API keys, Identity, Plan & storage and Billing. Plan & storage shows how much of your space you use, with a warning at 85 % and 100 %; messages appear next to the field they belong to, and the password checklist updates as you type.
- Deleting an API key now works.
- Storage figures no longer round up or show more free space than exists.
- Error messages now appear in red like other warnings instead of looking like a success.
Version 0.6.25
- Fixed: some returning users could get stuck bouncing between the dashboard and the terms/privacy confirmation page instead of being able to sign in.
Version 0.6.23
- Sign-up now asks you to accept our Terms of Use together with the Privacy Policy, in a single checkbox. The Terms of Use page is now final, matching the Privacy Policy.
- The logo on the sign-in and sign-up pages now takes you back to the homepage.
- The Company page now includes a short note for investors, with a link to our upcoming investor site.
- You can now reach us at hello@idof.life.
- Fixed: the animated background on public pages sometimes showed through sections it shouldn't have; the footer color is now consistent across all of them.
- If we ever update the Terms of Use or Privacy Policy again, you will be asked to review and accept the new version the next time you sign in.
Version 0.6.5
- A confirmation checkbox at sign-up and before subscribing now lets you confirm that you've read the privacy policy.
- When subscribing, your billing address section now appears before the Subscribe button, so you immediately see what still needs attention instead of finding out after a button that would not respond.
- Your session no longer occasionally freezes for up to 30 seconds during normal use — a slow connection to our servers now times out quickly and retries instead.
Version 0.6.0
- Post ideas for new features on the new community Wish board, and vote for the ones you would like to see built.
- "Shared with me" now brings pending invitations and files already shared with you together on one page; accepting an invitation keeps you there instead of sending you back to My drive.
- The left-hand navigation now stays in view while you scroll through a long list of files.
- You are no longer signed out automatically after about an hour of continuous work — your session now renews itself quietly in the background.
- The mobile navigation menu now correctly identifies itself to screen readers.
Version 0.5.39
- There's a new in-app FAQ — open it from the sidebar for quick answers on files, versions, sharing, workspaces and billing, including exactly how large a file can be and what happens when a trial or subscription ends.
- Fixed: if your account was locked, the sign-in page used to just say "Login failed." It now tells you what happened and, where it applies, until when your files are kept.
- Fixed: running out of storage during an upload used to show a raw error code. It now explains what happened and how to free up space.
- Fixed: uploading a large file used to fail partway through for anything much bigger than about 100 MB. Uploads up to 512 MB now go through reliably.
- Removed three sign-in buttons (Google, Apple, wallet) that looked clickable but did nothing; the "Sign up" link on the sign-in page is now clearly recognizable as a link.
- Fixed: the entry for the page you're currently on in your account menu used to be invisible (white text on a white background). It's visible again, and the menu has been reordered for quicker access to Account Settings and Logout.
- Signing out now takes you to the ID of Life homepage instead of back to the sign-in form.
- Release notes are now shown as a timeline, newest version first, each with the date it shipped.
Version 0.5.33
- The Privacy Policy linked in the footer now actually describes what ID of Life does with your data — your account, your files, activity logs and payments — instead of an outdated page about newsletter sign-ups.
- Fixed: the example API address shown on the Developers page was wrong. It now points at api.idof.life instead of the client.
- You can now enter a proper billing address — including a VAT ID where it applies — for your account or company, with the recipient name pre-filled and a field for a building or suite number above the street.
- Your subscription now shows clearly when it ends and whether it will renew — and if you already cancelled, you can change your mind and resume before the end date.
- New accounts start with a 14-day free trial with a clear storage and seat allowance, and the remaining days are shown so you always know where you stand.
- If your workspace becomes temporarily read-only, you'll see a plain explanation of what happened, what still works, and what to do next — instead of a raw error code.
- File and plan sizes are now shown the same way everywhere, so a 250 GB plan reads as 250 GB, not as a number of bytes.
- Company billing now lives in one place in your account settings, with a clear label for whose storage the usage bar is showing.
- A subtle animated background on the start page.
- Fixed: the billing address "Change" button, and the back link and consent checkbox on the sign-up page, were too small to tap reliably on a phone.
- Fixed: if a checkout was declined, you're now sent back to the billing address form instead of being left stuck.
- Removed a storage-encryption setting and a device-identifier field that looked active but did not do anything; file replication and storage encryption are now clearly marked "coming soon" instead of implying they already work.
- Fixed: the version number shown in the account menu could occasionally show an old release after a deploy instead of the current one.
Version 0.5.5
- Your account menu at the top right now shows which version of ID of Life you are using.
- New menu entry "Release Notes" — a short list of what changed in each version.
- Fixed: the version shown in the menu was one ahead of the version the release notes described.
Version 0.5.0 — Welcome to ID of Life. Here is what you can do with this release:
- Store your files on our own network in Europe — and work with them like in any familiar drive: upload, rename, replace, delete.
- Keep older versions of a file. Replace a document and the previous version stays available.
- Share a file by link, with an optional expiry date, or send it directly to another ID of Life user.
- Set up a company account, invite colleagues by link, and manage who is an administrator and who is a member.
- Switch between your private space and every company you belong to — your files stay separate in each.
- See at a glance how much storage you and your team are using.
- Sign in with your email address, or connect a Google, Apple or Web3 wallet account.
- Create API keys to connect your own tools, and revoke them whenever you like.
